Discovery Charter School II (DCS2)
Discovery Charter School 2 Opening August 2013
Last spring Discovery received over 700 applications for the 2012 – 2013 school year. With increasing demand and a desire to provide this unique learning environment to more students the Discovery Board of Directors has approved the opening of a second Discovery Charter School K-8 campus.
The new school will be located on the former Randol School Site at 762 Sunset Glen Dr, San Jose, CA (pending San Jose Unified School District Board approval). Discovery 2 will have the a majority of the school campus, specifically 16 classrooms, 4 restrooms, library, multipurpose room, full playground, and large grass area. However, the campus will be shared with the Spectrum Center.
Discovery 2 will open with 382 students in TK through 6th grade. The specific class configurations are:
- TK - 1 Class (22 total students)
- K - 3 classes (60 total students)
- 1st/2nd - 5 classes (120 total students)
- 3rd/4th - 4 classes (120 total students)
- 5th/6th - 2 classes (60 total students)
- 7th - To be added in 2014/2015 school year
- 8th - To be added in 2015/2016 school year
Discovery Charter School program is a developmental parent participation program with small group hands on instruction. The program engages the students with integrated curriculum, active inquiry, projects, and field trips relevant to classroom study. Emphasis is placed on the physical, emotional, and social development of each child with the understanding of individual learning styles, developmental readiness, and rates of achievement.
Charter schools are public schools and open to anyone wishing to attend.
